Boundary Elements Method (BEM) for Water Waves
Abstract: The boundary element method (BEM), also known as the boundary integral equation method (BIEM), is a numerical method which can be used to solve both steady-state and time-dependent boundary value problems. The current method is built upon the fact that solutions of Laplace’s equation in the interior of a domain are completely determined by values on the boundaries of the domain. BEM solves only for such boundary values and thus reduces of problem dimension by one. This can dramatically reduce storage requirements and computation times. This talk will present results of BEM simulations of:
* Potential problem in steady state for square, arc and annular domains.
* Standing water waves in numerical wave tank.
* Progressive waves in numerical wave tank.
