Title: Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics

Abstract: Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is a particle-based method for solving Navier-Stokes and similar equations and is well-suited to problems where the computational domain becomes highly deformed. This talk will describe SPH simulations of various single- and multiphase flows with free surfaces and interactions with structures and solid surfaces. The eventual aim is to simulate aerated wave impacts on structures and devices. A multiphase model is necessary to simulate such flows realistically. This further implies that large numbers of particles are required in the simulations, meaning that a paralleled version of the SPH code has had to be developed. Examples considered in the talk include collapsing water column, Rayleigh-Taylor instability,  bubble rising and the flat plate/aerated water impact from the FROTH project.
