Raphael’s research is on applied and theoretical aspects of surface water waves. His recent work is concerned with the nonlinear interaction of surface gravity waves, and wave-power harvesting in deep water. He also has an interest in acoustic-gravity waves, Gerstner-type waves, tsunami propagation – especially in relation to asymptotic model equations like the Korteweg de Vries equation, and other aspects of the mathematical theory of water waves.
