Very Special Relativity as a background field theory
Very Special Relativity (VSR) is a Lorentz-invariance-violating theory of physics beyond the standard model. Here we establish a correspondence between VSR and QED in strong background fields.
In particular we show that QED in VSR is an effective description of “ordinary” QED in a high-frequency laser field. In this framework many of the peculiar properties of VSR (nonlocality, a modified Dirac equation, infinitely many interaction vertices) find natural explanations, as I will discuss.
